A new name emerged however that would dominate his event for years to come.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HBCU Track &amp; Field in Montreal 1976<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tennessee State Tigerbelles under head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/hbcugameday.com\/2016\/09\/23\/ed-temple-longtime-tennessee-state-and-olympic-track-coach-dead-at-89\/\">Ed Temple <\/a>continued their incredible Olympic story as<a href=\"http:\/\/tshf.net\/halloffame\/mcmillan-kathy\/\"> Kathy McMillan<\/a> took home a silver medal in the long jump in Montreal. North Carolina Central, still under their mentor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackpast.org\/african-american-history\/walker-leroy-t-1918-2012\/\">Dr. Leroy Walker<\/a>, placed 110-meter hurdler <a href=\"https:\/\/nccueaglepride.com\/news\/2019\/3\/31\/track-field-nccu-track-legend-charles-foster-passes-away.aspx\">Charles Foster<\/a> in the finals where he finished fourth, just out of a medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Montreal was the stage for the introduction of one of the greatest Olympic and world champions of all time in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majortaylorassociation.org\/moses_bio.html\">Morehouse\u2019s Edwin Moses<\/a>. The Dayton, Ohio native entered Morehouse on an engineering scholarship and used that discipline to create one of the most amazing records in the history of track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And Moses shall lead them<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Because Morehouse did not have a track, Moses prepared at area high schools for the Montreal Games. He went on to break the Olympic and world records in winning the men\u2019s 400 meter hurdles gold medal. After earning his undergraduate degree in physics, Moses applied his training to fine-tune his athletic performance in the hurdles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 1977 to May 1987, Moses won an incredible 122 consecutive 400 meter hurdles races. The U. He still was able to capture a bronze medal in the <em>1988 Olympic games in Seoul<\/em>, <em>South Korea<\/em>. His Olympic appearances in 1976, \u201884, and \u201888 kept the Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference\u2019s streak alive of having an athlete from the conference compete in every Olympics since World War II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prairie View A&amp;M\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pvpanthers.com\/news\/2020\/9\/21\/mens-track-and-field-pvamu-great-fred-newhouse-named-to-usatf-officials-hall-of-fame.aspx\">Fred Newhouse<\/a> also made his Olympic debut in Montreal. He blazed to a silver medal in the 400 meters and was a member of the 4&#215;400 meter relay team that took home the gold medal. Prairie View\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Debra_Sapenter\">Deborah Sapenter<\/a> also medaled as a member of the women\u2019s 4&#215;400 meter relay team that won silver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also missing out on the 1980 Olympics because of the U. S. boycott were Tennessee State Tigerbelles Brenda Morehead (Campbell), <a href=\"https:\/\/tsutigers.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/coaches\/chandra-cheeseborough-guice\/521\">Chandra Cheeseborough (Guice)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatf.org\/athlete-bios\/madeline-manning-mims\">Madeline Manning<\/a> (Mims) and Kathy McMillan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HBCU Track &amp; Field in Los Angeles 1984: Cheeseborough takes LA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cheeseborough came back in 1984 in Los Angeles to establish new Olympic standards. In 1988, Young was a member of the gold medal women\u2019s 4&#215;100 meter relay team. She competed in preliminary rounds and yielded to 200 meter world record holder Florence Griffith-Joyner in the finals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At <em>Barcelona in the 1992 Games<\/em>, Young showed her versatility grabbing a spot on the silver-medal winning 4&#215;400 meter relay team.
