But a recent rule change now allows two full exhibitions against any four-year program, meaning <em>secret scrimmages<\/em> could soon become less secret\u2014and more valuable for exposure, especially for HBCUs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This month, several HBCUs showed they can hold their own. <strong>Arkansas\u2013Pine Bluff<\/strong> topped <strong>Arkansas\u2013Little Rock<\/strong> 77-69 in a <em>secret scrimmage<\/em> that later surfaced online. Transfer forward <strong>Jaquan Scott<\/strong> led the Golden Lions with 24 points, while guards <strong>Alex Mirhosseini<\/strong> and <strong>Quion Williams<\/strong> added 19 and 11, respectively\u2014all three newcomers making strong first impressions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Alabama A&amp;M<\/strong> notched a 74-73 win over <strong>Samford<\/strong> in a public matchup, displaying balance and experience. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/livforhoops\/status\/1980034494238163178\"><strong>Alcorn State<\/strong> also earned a 64-59 victory over <strong>North Alabama<\/strong> in its own <em>secret scrimmag<\/em><\/a><em>e<\/em>, paced by returner <strong>Tycen McDaniels<\/strong> (20 points) and transfer <strong>Jameel Morris<\/strong> from FDU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For HBCUs, these preseason contests\u2014whether <em>secret scrimmages<\/em> or public exhibitions\u2014offer a valuable measuring stick before the real games begin. They also showcase the depth, talent, and transfer power many HBCUs are bringing into the 2025 season.
