PARIS<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Making her Paris Olympics debut, former HBCU Track & Field student-athlete Monae’ Nichols of Bethune-Cookman advanced to the finals of the Women’s Long Jump<\/a> following Tuesday’s semifinals on August 6, at the Stade de France.
\u00a0
Nichols recorded a jump of 6.64 to book a place in the final of the Women’s Long Jump. Similar to her Olympic qualification, it was Nichols’ final jump in the semifinals that saw her through to the final with the eighth-best overall performance in the round.
\u00a0
She will serve as one of 12 participants in the finals.
\u00a0
Before transferring to Texas Tech, Nichols competed for Daytona Beach, FL HBCU Bethune-Cookman from 2018-21, while she would finish her senior season in Lubbock, Texas, with B-CU Athletics suspended for the duration of the 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
\u00a0
In her time as a Wildcat, Nichols competed in the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Nationals in the long jump, while also competing in the 2019 NCAA East Preliminaries in the 4×100. She was the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champion in the long jump during the outdoor season and took home top honors in the MEAC during the 2018 indoor season as well, completing back-to-back individual titles across the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
